Sufi Baul Madness and Happiness
Bapi is a troubadour who follows the way of the Baul – the ‘sweet madness’ of the itinerant mystic musicians of Bengal. He instills his music with a vivid sense of joy which has its roots in his syncretic religion. With his new album, Sufi Baul Madness and Happiness, brimming with energy and rhythmic notes, he brings the Baul philosophy to his music. With gentle female vocals, Jaiban Amar flows along languorously while Aar Eli Na Re Ure is like refreshing monsoon rain and Betha Dio Na is an ode to the freedom of the soul. The radiant Bapi is accompanied by flutes, banjo, tabla, dhol, khamak and dotara (lute). A visionary mix of traditional and electronic music.
